About

The Augmented Mind

A place to think properly about what happens to knowledge work when the machine stops being a tool and starts being a collaborator.

Most writing about AI is either breathless or dismissive, and almost all of it is short. Neither register is much use if you are actually trying to do the work — to build something, lead a team, or decide what your own craft should become.

These essays take the slower route. They assume the capability is real, assume it is not magic, and try to work out the consequences carefully enough to be wrong in interesting ways rather than vague in safe ones.

The recurring theme is displacement of scarcity. When producing an artefact becomes cheap, value moves to whatever remains hard: supplying context, exercising judgment, and recognising a confident answer that happens to be false. Most of what follows is an attempt to say something specific about that shift.
